Welcome! Learning is different here!
About Us

The DIS and DUES campus installed a brand new STEM lab in November of 2018, and it has quickly become a favorite among all students on campus. In the SmartLab students take charge of their learning in multiple areas of study including coding, robotics, engineering, scientific data and analysis, computer graphics, animation, energy production, 3D printing, video game design, and much more! We welcome you to stop by and see the amazing work that our students are engaging in each and every day!
What’s Happening in the SmartLab
Core Engagements 3rd-5th Grade 2nd Grade Core Engagements Students in 5th grade work on coding Sphero (sphere shaped robot) 3rd graders build and program Lego WeDo 2.0 robots using block code. 2nd graders working on animating their own drawings 3rd graders using K’NEX to learn about how a pulley can make work easier 4th grade video game design using Kodu Software Students in 4th grade using the Makey Makey boards These 4th graders are working with Snap Circuits to power fans/lights all while learning how electricity flows 5th grade Lego pneumatics (fully functional robotic hand) 3rd grade students working on a graphic design project 4th grade student working on Scratch Students in 4th grade work on a Makey Makey project and learn about what materials conduct electricity (playing the piano with a programmable circuit board) Students in 5th grade are working on animation projects 3rd grade wheel and axle K’NEX projects Students in 5th grade are working on animation projects 3rd grade K’NEX project. Students are learning about how simple machines can make everyday life easier. 3rd Grade students in Ms. Kern’s class program and drive a Lego WeDo robot 2nd grade architecture. This mini unit was on the engineering design process. 5th grade Sphero track. These students using a drawing code to move Sphero through their maze. 2nd grade beam bridge 2nd grade suspension bridge 2nd grader working on Minecraft:Education 2nd grade tower with functional rope ladder 2nd grade parking garage 5th grade Sphero track. These students block coded their robot to move through the maze without touching the bumpers. 5th grade students made a working model crane using the IQ Key kits These 2nd grade students are block coding using Hour of Code’s Dance Party An example of block coding to make Sphero move through a maze. Ozobot fun. Students work on color coding their robots to carry out specific moves and actions 5th grade students programming their story with Scratch Here is a second grader who is experimenting with alternative energy snap circuits. This project utilized a solar panel to turn on a light. Coding fun with KODU 4th graders working on a Stellarium presentation dealing with the planets Snap Circuit lesson dealing with parallel and series circuits. Students in 4th grade designed a game in Scratch and then controlled it with the Makey Makey board. This K’NEX top was made by a 4th grader. They are learning about friction and the Conservation of Angular Momentum.
